H Band Analysis Using Calibration Scans - 11/24/98
This documents on-going analysis of the affects due to the H band dead pixels
using calibration scans. Additional calibration sets will be examined before drawing final conclusions.
- Photometric calibration scans were selected for nights from the northern hemisphere after 981023n.
- Sources were merged using the SMERGE tool from sets of six scans.
- SMERGEd sources were grouped depending on RA position. The center RA position for the calibration scan was used to determine the cross scan grouping. Those sources that fell short of RA_center-1.3' went to the left_bin. Those that were greater then RA_center+1.3' went to the right_bin. All others were assigned to the mid_bin.
- All groups of SMERGEd sources were further edited by magnitudes. All sources with magnitudes between 11 and 14 for J band, 10.5 and 13.5 for H band and 10 and 13 for K band were selected.
- Another selection criteria was the confirmation number. Those SMERGEd sources that were confirmed 5 to 6 times and those that were confirmed at least 3 times were examined.
- Histograms were made of the magnitude errors from the selected SMERGE sources. One histogram for each cross scan grouping, for each confirmation grouping, for each band.
- A final step was to combine several calibration sets into a single histogram. Three calibration fields were used FS13, M67 and ABELL2409 in this composite historgram. A total of 36 calibration scans, 2 sets of six scans for each field. Each set of 6 scans was run independently to generate a histogram as described above. Then six histograms were combined to create a single histogram which represents the bands (J,H,K), the x-scan position (left,middle,right) and the number of confirmations (3-6, 5-6).
